In our laboratory, we also offer human genetic diagnostics. Here you will find important information on the preanalysis of human genetic samples.

Samples for DNA Diagnostics

Dor DNA diagnostic purposes we require:

  • EDTA-Blood (preferred)
  • oral swab
  • tissue samples

We need 2 to 3 mL of blood in the case of blood samples from adults and children. For infants and small children 200 μl bis 1 mL of blood is required. Immediately after the blood is drawn, the monovettes must be swirled/shaken several times.

If swabbing out the mouth, please firmly press the swab six times along the inside of the cheek. The swab should be allowed to dry out for around two hours. The subject should not have eaten or drunk anything for at least 30 minutes beforehand (please see the product information of the swab used).

Genetic Diagnostic Law

Please note that molecular genetic studies that are not initiated to explain an already clinically manifest disease, but to clarify whether or not there is a genetic predisposition, require genetic counseling before and after the analysis by a qualified physician.

Information for Sample Shipping

EDTA-monovettes and tissue preserved in paraffin can be sent uncooled in the mail. The classification without UN number or packaging is Basis P 650.

Medical or veterinary medical samples that do not contain infectious substances, or substances that are unlikely to cause disease in humans or animals are not subject to the requirements of the ADR (European Agreement concerning the International Carriage of Dangerous Goods by Road).

The sample must be transported in a package which prevents any leakage. The primary receptacle (ex. blood tubes) must be packaged in a secondary container with absorbent fleece. The sample is then placed in a packet or envelope. The outer packaging must be marked "Exempt human specimen".
